I don't think that will do it, the ECU light remains on when the igntion is switched on before I even crank it.

I can hear the fuel pump pumping but it doesn't seem to stop.

What conditions cause the ECU light to show before cranking?

Does it get a signal from the fuel pump off the relay at all?

I see, what would I need to read the ECU fault codes then?

Any specific bit of kit you can recomend?

Would I be right in thinking I would need an OBD1 code reader or is there another way? It is the pre-cat version ECU.

Not Starting?

I have a 1992 Range Rover 3.9 V8 Classic. The other day I noticed that when I came upto junctions the engine kept cutting out. To add to that it is very hesitent when starting from cold. This morning however i turn the igntion on and the '!' engine light is on and then won't start. I can hear the pu...

Coil negative connector. I'd change/test the ignition amplifier. The symptoms sound a lot like a problem there. Thats what I have been told. Just looked at wiring diagram, the ECU does connect to the coil - LT. Right I will get onto it now and sort it for good. I was quoted £42 for an ignition amp.

Took the king lead off to test it against the plenum while i cranked it over and the ECU light went out and an orange spark wa...

sounds like something to do with the ignition if its flooding. Check the king lead, cap and rotor arm and see if you have any sparks at the plugs. Check your getting voltage at the coil and general connections between dizzy and coil. Was going to get the girlfriend to check for HT on the king lead ...

Range Rover 3.9 not starting...

Just got myself a 1992 Range Rover 3.9. First day I had it was starting with no troubles. Second day I drove to MOT garage, engine nice and hot. It started cutting out and then failing to start. It would do this while driving with throttle and I noticed the rev counter stopped working and the ECU il...

Sold the block a while ago for 99p to be made in to a coffie table I belive. Just picked up a 1992 Range Rover 3.9 Vouge SE for a steal, checked the engine code and it is also the high CR pre-cat version. Just noticed the transmission temp light comes on as soon as I start it and then goes out after...

Took the block, crank and pistons to my local engine shop and the guy had a look at it and said it would be cheaper for me to get hold of another block as 3 of the liners have sunken and all would need a re-bore. He also said the crank would need a polish due to acid errosion and the pistons would n...

Thanks MGBV8, it's info like that which really helps. :) So I can cross that off my list then and use std gears or source SD1 cover. I used the Real steel catolouge mainly with a bit of RPI and Rimmerbros bits. I will get my bores checked and if ok will get a flex-hone and fit STD rings. Anyone know...

So best to get the bores oversized and honed then.
280 grit hone, 400 grit hone and nylon brush platue honed.

I was quoted abou £200 for that.

So what about honing bearing surfaces?

Flex-Hone Tools.

Was just researching plateu honing and came accros Flex-Hones. They recomend using them for bearing shells and valve guides as well as cylinder bores. Was wondering what you think of this and has anyone tried it? I am looking at getting a Silicone Carbide 320gritt Flex-Hone for my bores. Look here a...
