Sorry Chris - should have used a different word to 'deep'.
The P38 sump hangs a lot lower than the earlier version - not usable in a TVR as it would make contact with most moderate speed bumps.
Looks as if the front part is different to accommodate the later style of timing cover also.

RV8 Timing Covers
It looks like the 'intermediate' timing covers are in short supply... Is it possible to modify a later GEMS/THOR type cover so that it will work with the earlier type steel sump and pickup pipe located at the middle of the block? I don't need the distributor drive and don't seem to be able to find t...

Main Bearing Cap Removal
I am taking a block apart in the bench and can't seem to get the main bearing caps to move easily.
It's a x-bolted RV8 (...and yes, I have removed the x-bolts...).
I don't want to just start bashing them about, is there an accepted method -they seem to be stuck pretty tight.

Good Books?
Hi, I would really welcome some opinions on some good books related to Rover V8 engines - or even just general info. I have the David Hardcastle book 'Tuning Rover V8 Engines: How to Get Best Performance for Road and Competition Use' which I purchased a few years ago (now £899 on Amazon - WTH??) Wou...

Thank you. I have a second hand 4.6 engine built by V8D some time back. It has a 248 mech Cam. Speaking to Rob, he confirmed that usually they build to around 9.75:1 CR. It has a later (x-bolted) bottom end with early 14 bolt heads (36cc comb chambers) so I'm guessing that its using 4ltr pistons to ...

Compression Ratios
Just a general question.
I was trying to read up on compression ratios for Rover V8's.
What's regarded as the maximum you would build an engine to run (if using 99RON fuel)?

When I changed from a pre-serpentine engine to a serpentine, I also had to slightly change the heater matrix piping. The pre-serpentine pumps have an additional output for the heater matrix, which I think also allows some circulation around the engine (through the matrix piping) before the thermosta...

Sounds good, I thought after I'd posted about the shrinkage. Back when I was at school we did some sand casting of aluminium. I made a cast of an old MG badge my grandfather gave me, I remember now that the casting placed on top of the original was smaller. The price sounds good, I've seen several p...

Thank you for the reply. I think what is interesting is how my inlet manifold matches to the engine. I didn't think about it before, but I retained the inlet manifold from my 5.0l and am using it on this engine. Not sure if that could be causing an issue? I don't know if V8D would have just machined...
