waterproof ignition system

Post by idris »

V8 in a land rover for off road use. Is there a distributorless system or other ignition system that will work when very when wet?

Use the coil packs from a P38 Range Rover or Series II Disco along with a Megajolt.

Like a rubber glove with 9 fingers? I have seen them too, not sure how good they are.

I've heard that if you just seal up the distributor, it gets internal condensation. So some people suck a small amount of air through it (one pipe to near air filter, the other to inlet manifold) to keep it dry.

As Chris says, megajolt+EDIS8 is the business. The EDIS module is completely waterproof and will give you a bit fat spark even when the engine bay is underwater.

That sounds good. As I run lpg and petrol I have an RPI amplifier that changes the timing accoring to the fuel type. Will I be able to achieve similar with the megajolt?

I don't know if the MJ does that - i.e. has two maps, selectable with an external input????

First link is what I was on about. The second link I think is to stop radio interference or EM emissions in military applications and not waterproofing.

:whs

That second one is often sold as a waterproof kit, but it is for radio equipped vehicles so they can keep the engine running without interfering with all the radio gear on-board. Entirely pointless unless you're doing some kind of fancy restoration!
