Rover V8, Wiring up to run it out of the car

Post by stuartl »

I wonder if someone can help me?

I am in the process of making up a test bed for my engine and want to set it up to run and use the temp guage, oil pressure and the ignition and oil lights.

It will be run on twin SU's to make things simple.

Is there a basic wiring diagram available to show me how to wire it?

Thanks,

Stuart

If we knew what ignition system you were using it would be easier. The one with the ally box under the coil can be trimmed down to a couple of wires.

Use a mechanic gauge for the oil and temp, so much easier.

Ignition light is simply a bulb in the exciter wire to the alternator. The other (fatter)alternator wire goes to the heavy starter terminal to feed 12v charge back to the battery.

A push button can be used to supply 12 volts to the starter, to spin the motor over, but again, it depends on your ignition as to whether you need to mess with ballast resistors and stuff like that in that circuit.

Hey Chris,

Just a simple observation - is there not supposed to be some bodywork around that engine, hmmmmm like a van or a car lol

It cracks me seeing it like that.
