Carb damper oil disappearing

Post by jimland74 »

Hi

I've Stromberg cd175's on my Land Rover 101. I'm having to frequently top up the damper oil in both carbs. IE usually after each run of any distance of more than about 20 miles approximately, it has dropped really low. The engine then starts to misfire under medium to heavy acceleration.

I can't see any obvious signs of leaks and both diaphragms have recently been renewed.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated

Regards

Jim

Hi
do you have an arrangement to lift the pistons to the top of their travel when you switch to lpg? If so then it is sucking the oil out the dash pots because air is being drawn in through the little hole in the top of the dash-pot and displacing the oil as it passes into the space above the diaphragm.
best regards

as I'm aware, no. I don't think so. What would such an arrangement look like Chris?

Your carbs will have an extra pipe like this:

(those are 2" SU's, but same idea)

Chris.

No I don't have these pipes. Only have a pipe at the lower part of each carb to feed the LPG in

Hi
sorry no idea then, never heard of LPG being fed straight into the carb.
best regards
