Conrod bolts 4.0 rv8

Post by wangie46 »

Been searching and getting different views, do the con rod bolts need to be replaced on the 4.0/4.6 gems rv8 or can they be reused?

I buy new. They are angle tightened, which means they are stretched.

Every bolt stretches when it is tightened up. The question is how much and if it goes past it's elastic yield point.

Just because a bolt is torqued to angle doesn't automatically mean the are tightened past their yield point. Torque the bolt by an angle is generally more accurate because your mostly taking out the variable of friction.

I have re-used con-rod bolts on several engines with no concerns.

Unless you like building engines a LOT! Change them and upgrade if at all possible. There is no more crucial fastener in the engine when it comes to the damage a failure can cause. They are cheap enough especially compared to the cost of one letting go.
