I fitted a new coil from http://www.simonbbc.com/powerspark-ignition-coil
A big difference, the spark is mutch brighter and starting is much better.
Even today 1 clik and vrooooaaaam it also idles much better !! 8)
( start on lpg no gas tank anymore)
I always thougt that a coil could not become weak just broke.

Do you have standard Rover ignition otherwise?

Their site says:-

"The high energy electronic ignition coil is matched to the high energy performance distributors for the Triumph, Jaguar 6 cylinder etc or the 45D and 25D distributors that we custom build here in our workshop."

By make, do they mean make? I'd assumed they were made in the Far East, by the prices.

I fitted a new Lucas coil and distributor supplied by Powerspark last year and the car has run fine since. However, the rev counter is over reading higher up the rev range and the needle is very erratic. This was after fitting the new coil and dizzy (35DLM8). Any thoughts ?

If it's a Smiths, they seem to very variable as to how they react to input pulses.

When I fitted EDIS to my SD1, I tried every tach adaptor circuit out there - and there are several - without complete success. So ended up fitting different electronics to the rev counter head.

Others doing the same have had no problems.
