TR7 V8 axle options for up to 400hp on slicks?

Post by Iain »

Hi guys,

My TR7 came installed standard with the 2HA Salisbury axle which ive modified to take discs and im planning to 4 link it and tie it into the cage & install a plate diff. Im going to run an M62 BMW V8 (300hp/300lb ft) and a 3.45:1/3.9:1 Ratio to leave it sharp on hillclimbs etc.

But Ive found someone selling a 4HA ex works TR7 v8 Axle, it would be an ideal transplant for the back end for my car, it comes with Shafts & Salisbury LSD & in Triumph wheel PCD.

The CWP Ratio of the diff is unknown and from quick research i can only see that some ratios are available but at £600 for a new CWP

1. Are spares available for the 4HA Axle? LSD Units?
2. Should i battle on the with 2HA until i break it?
3. Is the Salisbury LSD Unit a plate type diff? can it be adjusted?
3. Have any of you guys any idea how much i should offer for the 4HA if i decide to go for it?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Iain

Ok The ex works axle fell through.. :(

So im on the hunt again..

Looking for an Axle with good CWP Ratios, LSD options, Disc would be nice and not too heavy that will be fit handy up to 400hp on some hillclimb slicks?

should i still be looking for a 4HA?

The standard triumph axle is 146cm wide from stub axle to stub axle..

Ive seen a few on ebay from scimitars but they seem too narrow :(

ford 8.8 inch with 9 inch bearing ends and 31 spline shafts. . . lots of ratios and you won't brake it with a rover.
Or chevy 10 bolt with a c clip eleminator set up.
best regards

I've got a Thunderbird 8.8 for my Tr8. It cost £80 from the US and has disc brakes and wheel sensors. It's also a similar width to my existing axle. They're not expensive to buy just expensive to ship.

The Volvo axel is meant to be a tough and reliable, just they are not nearly as common as they used to be and there is little in the way of aftermarket ratios and is priced acordingly. The 8.8 is common in the US, and as a result cheap second hand, it has a huge range of aftermarket bits if you cannot live with standard ratios, as is will handle about 550-650 bhp and alot of abuse, add the shafts described and it will be good for about 1200 and big wide slicks.
With the ford you can get everything from Strange, Moroso and Summet and many others. The only issue is importing it, you would be wise to find someone with a container comming in.
