RV8 timing belt

Post by timnutt »

I might be wrong, but I can't see anywhere in the Haynes manual that says the frequency of the timing belt needing to be changed. Most petrol cars I have owned recommend 60-70,000 miles. Does the Rover v8 not need it changing.

The reason I ask is that I would normally change a timing belt on an engine I don't know the history of. However, it looks like a complex job that I'd like to avoid, particularly that 280NM of torque on the crank pulley bolt ;-(

What d'reckon?
Thanks

Sorry to say, RV8 has got timing CHAIN.. :D
If you are replacing cam etc, then you have to replace chain, or it is advisable to change it..
I know many RV8 enginse witch has got run STD chain over 400 000km.. Still running fine..

Old transit or freight rover (can't remember which) diesels did, when the belt failed it just bent the pushrods.

"You can buy custom made timing belt kit for SBC V8.. Very Happy"
yes you can, I did and fitted it, not cheep but a nice kit by all accounts it gives much more consistent valve timing and it means you can change the cam without stripping the front cover.
best regards
