E34 V8 5speed is the same as a e36 M3 3.0ltr except for the front housing which includes the bell housing, I cross referenced all the part numbers, every thing except that casing are the same and I think it's only about £150ish to by, I was about go this route when I found the one.... and 400 mile round trip to get it......... It cost me more than my engine....!!!!LOL..

:D oh no! So you mean I'm that bit closer to my dream of owning a v8? Goodbye wallet :P After your uplifting words, I've had a look on bmwfans.info and, as you've done, cross referenced the casings, and the box from my 328 is the same as that on an M3, so after looking on there, and reading what you've said, all I need is the e34 front housing. What'dya think?

Yes mate, go for it. There not easy to find and you know as soon as you buy the front housing from BMW one will come up cheap on ebay...

I am in the throws of fitting individual throttle bodies on her, should give it a bit more.... and as for the oil pump, I have the one and only jig for holding everything inline for welding the extension pieces in place.....
Would you be willing to lend it or get a pump modified for me?
I am guessing that no response = a no? :(

Hi Iain,

Sorry for the delay, but not a no, I have spoke to my mate, as he will have to make the spacer blocks to go into the pump and he also makes a new oil pump shaft, he will let me know what sort of cost that will be involved and I will let you know...

+1 for that oil pump mod. I was thinking of going the n62 way, and just getting the pump shaft machined, but yours is a tested and proven design (you also answer questions ) Sadly, after 140000 miles, the underside of my car is looking rather sorry for itself, so everything that can come of, is getting replaced or reconditioned, and any reinforcing kits welded on, then the engine swap

Hi,

I believe that with enough publicity on BMW forums you may want to look into starting a group buy.

My two cents.

Or even getting the modified section of the pump sand cast, obviously depending on how much that'd cost. Just another idea

Awesome, so in effect i can just feed this from the same feed I'm useing for the main system......i got bored waiting for idiots to get back to me with my pump, so I've gone with a peugeot 405 hdi pump in the end.....i just made a sandwich plate between the sump and the block to mount it all :)
