B/W 35 problems

Cracks in the casing where the rear servo bolts on is common, usually caused by the mounting bolts working loose. The servos themselves can crack around the mounting too. I've never repaired one, I just find a replacement casing, but you might find a helicoil would work in the short term, but it's a very narrow bridge the servo bolts on to, so you haven't got a lot of room to play with.Semi Hemi wrote:right then, when i first had problems with this box i remember hearing a loud crack nois but couldnt find anything..well now i have!! around the casing by where the rear servo is theres a hairline crack, must have been caused by the rear servo i guess so im going to try some of that metal filler to get me to the end of the year,i can then get my other box rebuilt and start again..the other thing is when it gets hot and i use the kickdown it takes ages to change back up into 3rd,could this be incorrectly adjusted cable?
thanks again
You'd have to make an adapter plate to bolt the bellhousing to the engine, and modify the flexplate to take a suitable converter if necessary, as the 65 was never fitted to the Daimler engine, but it could be done, unless the bolt pattern on the Daimler V8 was the same as the Jag XJ engine then it should be childs play. Either way a lot more work than making sure that the 35 box is built to the best spec and is working as it should.DaveEFI wrote:I'm not sure if a 65 is a straight swap - but they're a much stronger box, and cheap as chips second hand.
i cleaned the gearbox off earlier and went for a drive, all seems to be working ok at the moment, maybe its when it gets really hot and i kickdown it takes quite a while to change back up..dunno!! and now its clean i've found the worst of the leak is from the pan,i've tweaked the bolts up and its allmost stopped it..allmost.
if only i'd thought it out properly i would have been able to take the pan off and fit a new gasket..
