hello all,
Anyone know what thickness the original LR sump gasket is for the 3.5 v8 engine?....
For some reason thicknesses seem to vary.....and the thick ones compress quite altot when the bolts are torqued up....
Went to my local dealer...and could only buy 10 gaskets at £6 so expensive.....
I've bought one from elsewhere...and just want to make sure it aint to thick before i fit it..
Getting sick of changing sump gaskets as they just keep leaking...
cheers

Same here!!
Clean the sump flange with thinners to make sure its good and dry. Then glue the cork gasket to the sump. When its fully set it wont move when you nip it up with some hylomar or similar. I have at one time fitted a sump with no gasket and just a bead of "right stuff" gasket seal. That was 2 years ago and the engine is still running with no sump leaks

I have recently had a leaky sump issue.
I have a 4.6 pressed steel sump with which I used a rubber gasket (as supplied with my lower gasket set!)
At first was a bit of a drip which got worse! I the end after 30 miles the whole back edge of the sump was one row of drips.
I dropped the sump to investigate to find the rubber gasket had split and broke in several places so no wonder it was leaking!! (I had torqued up the bolts correctly)
After investigating on this forum I found the Landrover manual says to just use hylosil 101 or 103 with the pressed steel sump, the rubber gasket is used only for the later alu sump.
If it was me for any pressed steel sump now I will just use hylosil 100 series RTV
