4.6 block??
hi guys wanting some advice,,,
currently running a blown 3.5 rover,, i'm very keen on making more hp/torque etc,, the easiest way for me to do that is buy buying a 4.6 block building bottom end then transferring top half of 3.5 over.
i'm always told the 4.6 is always prone to faults leaky liners etc,, should i be looking at something like this with block having top hat liners, x bolted mains etc
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RANGE-ROVER-P38-V ... 43a0fd63e5
will this eliminate the problems prone with these blocks?
i wanna go chevy route eventually but this the best fastest option for now.
your thoughts please,, many thanks.

Just wondering is it bossible to bore Turner Engineering block to 96mm bore, if they use O-ring at the bottom?
When my local machine shop in Finland made couple of top hat blocks, i think they only add some glue between the block/liner, not silicone selaer?
And i dont have any proplem + ever hear any bad for other blocks..
V8 developments sell top hat blocks at 995inc vat?

In my experience Real Steel are pretty well respected certainly I have had very good service from them and find their prices good. Are you thinking of RPI by any chance??POAH wrote:kiwicar wrote:£1250 seems a little steep for just the block to me, you can have a reconditioned chevy 350 4 bolt long engine from real steel for £150 more but I supose its not a rover.

yeah but look who is selling it lol

poppet valves rule!
I to had the same idea over a year ago now!
I had a 3.5 supercharged and wanted more... Found a 4.6 on e-bay thought it was worth a gamble. Paid £300 for block bottom end and heads. Had been in a vehicle fire apparently???
Anyway had the block pressure tested and three liners leaked
but I brought it knowing this was a posible. Think it was £800 for top hat liners. I won't get into the new gearbox to handle the extra torque, new diff with a more suitable ratio, new fuel system (pump, injectors) etc,etc...
When boring the new liners they asked what size? So then I started dreaming about going bigger... but had to stop myself getting carried away as funds wouldn't stretch to new pistons and balancing as well, so i'm making do with supercharging my 4.6.
