Whats my block worth?

OK peeps, I'm after an honest answer as to how much my block is worth.
It is/will be a 4.6 crossbolted block bored to 96mm with top hat liners. Block is being done at the moment, but when I get it back it will be for sale to try and fund a chevy project.

I'll give you £50 for it

Difficult question as someone buying it would have to source a suitable crank of their own which would be quite expensive.

When you say block, you quite literally bare block? no crank,pistons or rods? Personally I would rather buy block with the crank,rods and pistons, i.e. short engine but that is only because I wouldn't want the hassle of sourcing all the right bits. For this reason I'd want it cheap! I am not in the market but I guess I would be happy to pay £2,500-£3,000 for a short block with forged pistons, rods and crank. Expecting to pay £1,500 for these additional items I guess I would therefore be happy to pay £1,000-£1,500 for the bare block. I would expect to have all the invoices for the engineering work and have a report showing the block as being pressure tested, etc. Phew!

you'll be lucky to get a grand for it. they come up on ebay now and again and don't go for anywhere near that. Standard new short engines ususally maybe £2k-£2.5k

Used ones go for £1k-£1.5k . . . so bare block? Dunno!

The thing is, with it bored to 96mm everything else is going to be expensive/custom to make a big capacity engine. So maybe someone in the market for that would be prepared to pay a premium.

However - a bare used (maybe even bad) 4.6 block would only be a couple of hundred then add on the cost of top hat liners (to cure a leak?) at £600ish and your looking at £800 tops IMO

I think it will be worth a grand of any ones money. As for saying that a 96mm block is going to be expensive is wrong ! I have gone the 96mm route and it is no more expensive than sticking with the 94mm block. Its only the pistons that are diffrent and they are all the same price 94mm or 96mm, and if you are buying new like you would if you were building a new engine then they are readily avaliable. Dont take any less that £1000..

It depends of your stroke

With 86mm stroke you can use flat top Chevy 305 + 0.04'' (95.9104mm) pistons who are avaiable in hypereutectic or forged from KB-Silvolite.
An set of hypereutectic costs around 120USD on Ebay.

I got my whole bottom end from wildcat engineering. He is never in a rush to get anything done but i think his prices are good.

Pistons are pistons and cost roughly the same if they are custom made. However, I don't see how a 96mm block can be compared costwise with a 94mm block. Obviously one has been machined and fitted with new liners and that costs money.

This is what I am hoping to do what length of rods did you use 5.7 or 6".
Can you stroke a 82mm 4.6 crank to 86mm?.
