ENGINE STANDS

Post by bclancy »

Hi

Just looking on e-bay at engine stands as I'm finaly getting close to assembling the new engine. Just wondered if anyone has one of the sealy stands and what model/size? I just want a basic (read cheap  ) but dont want to get one thats too small to fit my RV8!

Any part numbers or examples would be great!

Thanks

Brian

Hi Brian
I got a cheapie Machine Mart one, the u-shape base type, figured that would be more stable than the "t" shaped ones. Had a fat old Chevy hanging off it no problems.

I've got a really cheep T shaped base one with a big fat SBC on it (machine mart from what I remember), it is fine provided you try and get the block centre of gravity aligned with the pivot that lets you rotate it, it is well worth the time to set it up right.

Machine Fart
4 wheeled beastie for me.
Hang a small country off that,IMO much more stable than a T based stand.

I got the cheap T shaped one, but I modified it with a stabiliser bar to turn it into an H shape. It really helps as when torque up the mains etc it holds it steady whereas before it would try to tip over. You can see it in this pic, didn't realise how much its changed in there this is a year old!

Would be handy, a bit of card is ok though- not too much oil in it on the stand!
