If you are doing about 2K a year, I would run it until it grinds itself to bits, I recon on that milage you will get 5 or 6 years out of it. If it is going to go with a bang it would be at the strip, again I wouldn't change it until it is broaken, why spend money when you don't have to.

poppet valves rule!
My Mk1 Estate 5.8l is still running the original (non-lsd) axle and it's still hanging in there "just". Not as much BHP or Torque as the Cobra engine though.
I'd agree with kiwicar, run it till you break it, with the lsd fitted I reckon your more likely to knock out the CV joints on the halfshafts or twist the halfshafts than break the actual diff.

The CV's broke even when being abusive on the road, on road tyres.
