Running Lean?

Removed the engine today,
and we were a bit concerned when removing the passengers side manifold,
it looks as if cylinder 3 is running either lean, or no fuel, its shiney as if its just been ported,

cylinder 4 is slightly clean any ideas?

has it been running at all on that cylinder ???

never noticed a drop in power mate,
and it never lost any water,
will see what the pistons are like when the heads come off next weekend,
whats the easiest way to check the injectors to make sure they are correct,?
im also going to test the ecu loom from the plugs back to the ecu,
could this be one of the reasons it seemed low on the rollers in August?
and could this be assisting this missfire?

In all honesty....it can be quite easy to barely notice it off 1 cylinder.

You can either test the injectors yourself ( Most ecu's will have a function to fire them )

Rig up a test, and leave them installed in the manifold etc, and squirt into a jar. ( one at a time say )


Getting them tested properly, is likely to cost at least £10per injector. And if they are fairly new...its highly unlikely there is anything wrong.

Perhaps no spark on that cylinder...and only dumping fuel through it, could cause it to be clean.

i'll have some time to start testing bits now,
so can check plug leads as well,
will also see what the pistons are like when the heads come off.

yeah we noticed that one too mate,
maybe the reasons towards the missfire at 6k?
will not know until its all built and back in :lol:

Obvious one to check is the cam, but its new , bent pushrod, I would guess blocked injector, especially if I remember correctly they are the first injectors in line,
Does you ECU batch fire, or fire individually??

Ian, the car aint running yet, so it would of had the old crower cam and crane lifters,
we only took the engine out today from it coming off the road last yr,

mine one is set to batch fire the injectors mate,

had a closer look today and the port is not clean, the carbon etc is white same as the exhaust valve faces,
