how to flare ali rad pipes

Post by Ralphh85 »

im using 32mm OD 1.6mm wall ali pipe to run my rad water down,

done anyone know of any tool which will flare the ends to make the hoses fit better?

i have been pointed in the direction of a "crox tool" but looks like they are just for plumbing pipe.

Ralph

Drill a number of holes arounfd the pipe about a cm in from the end

Pip rivet through the pipe

Push rubber hose over the pipe and rivets

Fit Jubilee clip - because of the rivits it can never move!

Simple and does not need the purchase of tools.

NF Auto bead pipes, not sure though if they'll do stuff they haven't supplied but might be worth a call, nfauto.co.uk

Suppose if you can stand the price then this would be a good investment

I was going to make some of these:

Because my pipes were blowing off, but I replaced all the clamps with Quality Mikalor clamps and the problem went away. (Consider that the 3" ones need a 13mm socket to tighten up - they are meaty)

why not have the local engineering shop turn you down a cone out of scrap metal? poke the cone end in the pipe and whack the other end after using a gas torch on the pipe.

Mikalor clamps solve a lot of problems dont they Eliot?
I always clean the pipe and the hose with Alcohol or petrol to make sure they are clean and dry before clamping. I've never had a hose blow off or leak.
