Engine troubles

Just purchased engine Number 11A62600 which has got the apparent following problem. "Ignition system keeps destroying the coil over a period of time. It has used three coils before being removed."

Any ideas what might be the problem - seller said the distributor needs replacing to solve it. Also what distributor and carbs should be fitted to this motor.

Probably be the coil is the correct one and been wired Direct to 12v where it should have a 7v feed from a ballast resstor

The engine is from a SD1 from the 1979/80 period, what distributor do you have?

The engine would originally been on carbs probably 2 x 1 3/4" SU's what car is it going into? as this may effect what you can use as an induction system depending on clearance under the bonnet.

Or the coil is a points type coil being used with a ignition amplifier type coil (i.e. any coil without points - not sure about Opus)
