Wiring dizzys and ignition amps

Post by 3500 VWt25 »

hey guys ,
question is .......
i have a home build project with a 3.5 was running points but i swapped the points out for a electronic ebay special which lasted a few week
ive wired the coil direct to the ign it has a 3ohm resistor in but it still blew it and the module is fried too

i want to change this out to a full electronic sysytem
can i fit a 3.9 dizzy / ign amp and if yes how would i wire it since i only have 1 wire into my engine bay lol
any info would be great thanks

That would be a good choice. You then have a distributor, amplifier and coil that are all matched.

You just need to power the coil positive with +12V. The amplifier will then have two wires to the coil and two to the distributor (unless it's the amplifier that fixes to the side of the distributor). And away you go!

Okay so I bought that set up linked above ,
Question is the dizzy had a two pin connector and the ignition amp had a 3 pin connector
Is there like a link cable missing from this set up
Cheers

Later versions of the amp changed to a 3 pin connector. But are just fine used two pin. Genuine original Lucas replacements came with a three pin plug and instructions.

You are right, one connection is coil +ve, the other coil -ve.

You do NOT need a ballast resistor if you have the ignition amplifier.
