Strange. Do you have a BOV at all there to vent excess pressure? Thoughts on possible causes. 1. crankcase breather blockage. Unlikely but possible 2. Lean misfire. Either not enough fuel or too much advance. Engine spits back out the inlets. Large bang occurs, then if lean condition continues engi...

RV8/supercharged intake manifold keeps blowing up, why?
I've got a 4.6 RV8 with a M112 supercharger fitted using a custom manifold. There are some pictures here: http://www.tvrsseries.com/sowners/greenv8s/greenv8s.htm The basic layout is a throttle upstream of the blower, quite a long manifold leading to a plenum feeding all eight cylinders via very shor...

Do you have an electric oil pressure gauge? If so, it's possible that the gauge is lying. This could be a fault in the sender itself, or in the wiring by the sender. Either of these could be affected by the movement of the engine as it is revved, and erratic gauge readings are a classic symptom of t...

Assuming you do check that the noise is coming from the engine itself, I remember hearing about a phenomena termed cam walk which can result in some very heavy knocking noises. As far as I remember it, the problem occurs when the cam has end float and moves so far that cam followers start catching o...

Oh come on reinstall is only if its completely knackered lol. I know I do this for a living I don't do it for a living, but I spend *far* too much time fixing systems including a great many that people have had a go at fixing themselves and got in a right mess. If you're willing and able to roll yo...

If your machine has been compromised then unless you believe you are smarter than the guy who wrote the virus, the only safe remedy is to reinstall everything from scratch. You'll often find that one infection is used to install others; even if you find one, there's no realistic way to be sure you'v...

To observe what is happening one would need an oscilloscope on the injectors. Not normally within the ability of most of us. If you put a 12v LED in parallel with the injector, it responds quickly enough to be visible when the injector fires. At cranking speeds you can see the individual pulses, an...

I think the standard maps are usually set up for 2.5 bar, but if your ECU has been remapped then it may require a different pressure. I don't know what the ECU will do with an open circuit on the coolant temp sender, but if it takes the resistance at face value then this corresponds to a very cold e...
