Yeah i was going for kind of american inspired "rat" look,which is basically my excuse for not painting the thing. :D I`m still not happy with the carb set-up though,its running SU`s of some description i`v not really had much to do with them since i had mini`s and that was a good few year...

It is a marked difference from the standard 50bhp, it does go well.

Very nearly :D ,still getting used to all rattles dont want to push it too hard yet, its a hell of alot faster than the standard 1600 aircooled unit,and it sounds the dogs 8)

Hello all, Well i`ve finally got the van M.O.T`d so its on the road,I do still have some questions though, the temperature sits at about 90 ish degrees is this too hot??,it does come down with fan on to about 82. Will let you know what happens, I went down to the local DVLA office in Bristol yesterday with a reciept of purchase from the chap i got the engine from, and a copy of the log book from the police van the the engine came from, the bloke that i spoke to seemed a bit confused as why they questioned it...

Ok i did get the engine running,i put some wd40 in each cylinder as i thought that because it had been sittting for 8 years it may free things up and bugger me it started.However, the old problem of the starter not turning the engine is back. It turns the engine over really well with the plugs out. ...

No the diesel vw engine that was in the T25 was basically a golf engine and the bell housing is different, that was the first thing i thought of, KEP in california do uprated starters,but they are $295 about 200quid with delivery.

The starter is the same set up but i changed the bush when i got the new starter as a course of action,there is definatly no flex in the shaft. I will do some research to see if i can get the starter beefed up-maybe getting it rewound or bigger magnets or something. Thanks for all the replies folks,...

Yeah i have to use the vw onw as it has a new ally flywheel to fit in the bell housing and so the rover starter would not make contact with fly wheel.

Its a Lucas and is for up to a 1982 VW T25 1.6 and 2.0, its basically a standard starter., i just assumed that the v8 would have lost some of its compression and that a brand new standard starter would be up to the job, its either that or i have missed something on the wiring, but i have checked and...
