Hi Rob, Thanks for the reply, no hard feelings at all! I must admit I did not think that the cam had enough lift to cause concern, but now I am concerned! I'll check for piston clearance using checker springs and a couple of lifters that have been filled up with wax or glue. Do you reckon tha...

It doesnt sound implausible, but I got it not when the engine gets some rpm. only when the engine was hot. but the last few days i havent heard the sound, weird. But perhaps in Pete case. But when I think about it, if a lifter is pumped over then the valve can of course not close completely again. ...

That sounds like lifter pump up to me and a valve is hitting a piston, what cam and valve springs are you running? I just changed from a standard cam to a hurricane cam a short while ago. Heads were off a while back for new head gaskets, valves and stock springs - no sign of anything untoward. I fi...

Basically a late delivery of it and three of us had taken a day off work as we were expecting the engine. My mate phoned up V8 Dev, he was told to phone the courier himself, not good customer service! Anyway he phoned up the courier who said that they would not deliver it until V8 Dev had paid thei...

Well said Rob!! I'm sure you coming on here will be a bonus for the forum. Thanks for the heads up on the V8D situation. I've had 2 engines now from V8D, albeit via a 3rd party for strange reasons and ebay ;) The first one took a shed load of abuse before letting go. The new one is a top hat linere...

its not allways the block, generally if these engine produce a knock when they are warmer there is a good chance it is going to be piston pin to piston or even little end on rod, a worn big end bearing or liner moving up and down, either way best solution is to strip the motor before you buy anythin...

A factory 4.2 indeed had 40thou, a tvr 4.3 ran flush with the deck face, a few guys have used a 3.9 piston and skimmed the top of the piston down but this will leave a very narrow top ring land imho, 5cc pistons will definetly give you a high cr, if you can say where the 5cc piston will be in the bo...

yes i am that rob!, TIN GASKETS? they wont last a weekend with the kind of power you are talking about, i would assume mike has allready figured on gaskets so again go with your builder, also the squish band and deck heights need to be taken into consideration, and running a cr as low as 8 you may j...

I am building a 4.45 engine with 80mm stroke crank. The engine is for trackday SD1 with 3.9:1 rear axle. Engine must be able to hold 7000RPM. Not a chance!! that will be a grenade waiting to happen! what are you doing piston wise? if you are having custom pistons made i would go for using a chevy h...
