Edelbrock carb tuning

Having roared around the south coast all weekend, I can tell the engine needs a tune. The IVA showed it running fairly weak mixture on tickover and at 2000rpm it isn't smooth at all. I knew I'd have to do something with mixture/jets/etc. as I took the Edelbrock carbs straight out the box and attache...

Which clutch for my Rover v8

Hi, I need a new clutch for my kit car, but I don't know which one to buy. I have a Rover v8 3.9 litre engine. It was originally from a Land Rover Discovery. I had to change the flywheel to one from an Rover SD1 (came with clutch) as the Land Rover one wouldn't fit inside the LT77 gearbox bellhousin...

Forgot to mention I'm using a new (well 2nd hand) Facet fuel pump which if I recall I bought off you sidecar(bod) ;-) It does seem to back off when it hits the right pressure, so I think(!) it isn't flooding the carbs.

Thanks for the step-by-step - I'll give it a go and let you know :-)
Cheers!

RV8 starting problems

Hi, I need your expert help on getting my Rv8 3.9 started. I have replaced the EFI with an edelbrock carb, but everything else is standard. I have a new coil, new plugs, and new leads. There is fuel to the carbs and spark at each plug. I suspect the timing is wrong, as I had to rotate the distributo...

LT77 Gear stick to remote

Hi, Just checking the fixing of the gear stick to the Lt77 gearbox remote before I put v8 engine and gearbox into the kitcar. I'm worried that the single bolt holding the cup over the gear stick will break near where the tab joins to the cup....I've taken a picture. Am I missing something or being p...

Also a good idea- I feel a bit daft now asking ;-)
Anyway it worked! I have to say it was very counter intuitive to hammer something in to make something come out.

New bush is chilling in the freezer for a while before tapping it home.

Thanks again guys!

Now why didn't I think of that...
I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on. I might video the mess just for a laugh ;-)

Thanks!

Hi, I've read (and seen a U-tube video) of how to get the bush out by packing with grease and then using a hammer on a piece of bar. I'll take your word that this works, but where am I going to find a 19mm bar that fits - I've searched the whole garage and everything is either to small or too big. H...

Yup - mine is, early 1990 engine. I've only found 1 place that stocks the full 14 bolt replacement head bolts so far: RPi. Any other suggestions.

Yup - little black cornflakes is a good description. They crumble in your fingers like ash. Here's hoping that lack of oil changes hasn't worn anything too badly. I guess I'll know more once I get the heads off. Fairy power spray...! Good tip. On my last build (2.0 pinto) the forum had a poll set up...

Black flaky stuff...

Hi, I'm refurbishing a 3.9 Rover v8 and when I lifted the rocker covers to check on the state of the rockers, etc. I find that everything is covered with what can only be described as black flakes. It's as if the oil has been burnt. Is this a sign of overheating or very infrequent oil changes, or wh...

Thankfully it all looks like it will fit - I won't know for sure until I bolt it all together at the weekend. I ordered the clutch lever and slippers from RimmerBros, and they advised the following clip: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-FRC3416P "Release Bearing Retaining Clip" I can't ...

RV8 timing belt

I might be wrong, but I can't see anywhere in the Haynes manual that says the frequency of the timing belt needing to be changed. Most petrol cars I have owned recommend 60-70,000 miles. Does the Rover v8 not need it changing. The reason I ask is that I would normally change a timing belt on an engi...

Thanks for the info. You are right, while the clutch plate and everything else fits the LT77 2WD gearbox the bellhousing is too small to fit over the larger clutch plate. So I've managed to get hold of a smaller (9.5") clutch plate and cover and also an SD1 flywheel. Hopefully no more surprises...
