Rv8 alternator bracket

Got a Cobra rep' with a SD1 carb engine fitted, I've had to modify the alternator bracket so the alternator sits above the bracket instead of hanging below. Works ok but not looking so good. How many vehicles with a similar engine might have a suitable alternator bracket so that I could use a "...

Thanks for the information Mike, its the "free" horsepower I'm after, so I think I'll start to re-build the spare engine and do some porting and polishing.
Cheers!

Thanks for all the input, given me me plenty to think about.
One other thing I had not considered, is that the flow capabilities of the carbs, may already exeed that of the standard head, making any of my efforts futile, but I'll try anyway.

Considering "tinkering" with SU's

I'm running an V8 from an SD1 with SU's. I'm going to remove the poppet valve from the buttefly and blank the holes, while I'm in there, I was going to slim down the spindle, but then I thought, why not move the butterfly fixing screws to the very edges and cut out the centre section of the spindle,...

The collective wisdom seems to indicate that its not pinking that I have.
So I think I will set it to 6btdc, keep a close eye on the plugs, tailpipes, quit worrying and get on with the body prep.
Thanks for all the input.

How far do we think the timing would have to be advanced to "guarantee" pinking for me to hear.
Then I can decide if what I have is pinking, or some other problem.

Appreciate the suggestions; Pretty sure exhaust manifolds are tight, had a listen with a tube and heard nothing. No sign of "particles" on the plugs I just took out, colour is "off white", Ill check new plugs after a good run at the weekend. Noise is most noticable on light accel...

Pinking ??

SD1 engine on SU's, with "Opus ignition" all STD exept filters and headers. I think I have pinking problems, but not too sure. Have had static timing from 2 to 8 btdc with not much difference, currently set at 10 btdc at 1200rpm. Much worse cold than hot, so it could be piston slap, but fr...

Mine have similar ammounts of play and have set up OK on idle speed, mixture and balance.
Still working on hesitation on acceleration, trying to decide if its damper oil weight or ignition issues.

I'm in the middle of the same job of carb tuning, got nowhere untill I got a rebuild gasket set from Burlen. The main problem I had was the o-rings in the cold start enrichment valve had got old an cracked, this was passing fuel from time to time, like the choke was out. Things are a lot sweeter now...
