90degree bends for k&n filters

Just wondering if the elbow bits on the following auction were a standard rover part. I am thinking they would site the K&Ns on my engine just in the right place for the bonnet vents to ram cool air over them to try and counter the fact they sit above red hot exhaust manifolds....who ever thought of that idea!

Must be better than sticking the filters right on the carbs though- a nice runner to get better flow than straight in the front of the carb. Ok that might not have made any sense but I know what I mean...

I read a report many years ago that claimed an 8bhp advantage in using the elbows with k&n type filters, compared to just putting the filters directly onto the carb stubs, due to straightening out the airflow and not presenting the carb with turbulent air.

you can get another 4-6 by fitting straight 5" trumpets and rounding the leading edge of the piston with a 1/4" radius (when you have selected the right needle). From an old CCC article from what I remember.

Why not use standard silicon hoses? You can get all sorts of sizes and colours as well as reducing elbows. It's what I have done.

There was a writeup about that 1/4" radius trick on the Classic Rover Forum a while back. Looks interesting.
