If he bought them through a clarke retailer he may have a case.
He doesnt say what he was doing with them though? Cuttings disks dont normally like being used for grinding as the sideways force on the disk often makes it break up.

Its worth passing on though as its a health and safety warning eh!

I posted it up on the nsra forum, one of the guys there said there also stamped on the inner clamp ring, looked there and threw a whole pack of aldi ones in the bin !

you can make your own mind up but I think it hte right thing to do and inform others.

I used the grinder cutting discs to cut through the sill section of a 100e and the disc exploded.

I wondered if something had gone wrong and could not find anything to stop me from securing a fresh item and trying again.

Unfortunately, the second time a new disc exploded after 30 seconds of light use, it flew apart and went into my thigh, right hand but took a big bite of my left hand as shown.

Inspection of the discs showed a good date of 2013 but to be honest I was simply looking for possible defects. Then my wife peeled of a sticker that hid a date etched into the disc of July 2010. These discs are therefore well expired so I'm currently pursuing this further.

I thought about waiting till I new more but as you can see that each and every disc has a sticker covering the date and the packaged whole, It is my opinion that the local store has not done this and therefore the issue lies with some depot that is packaging them where ever they are made.

The morale duty here is simply to inform and check before use not to blacken the Clarke name to avoid recompense

Interesting.

Clarke don't exist as such, they are just a brand name for Machine Mart for their cheap stuff imported from China.

I've never had that happen, and I've used a few Clarke cutting discs.

Here is an interesting update from today!!!

Based on what I have seen in this thread I decided to go to my office and do some checks.

I recently bought a big batch of disks for a job I did 2 weeks ago. I bought the batch 3 weeks ago. We also bought in stock for the trade counter. These are "supplier X" disks. And we stocked around 500 disks for resale..

They dont have the use by date printed on the disk. They have them stamped into the metal support ring in the middle of the disk.

The batch I bought and used sucessfully 2 weeks ago had a use by date of EX211. Which is Expiry 02/11.

I discussed this with my director at work and he got straight onto "supplier X" to ask questions...

He was told that "technically" you should not use out of date disks.

So he asked why we were sold a large batch of disks that were 6 months past their "technical" use by date...

We are still waiting for an answer. Presumably while they pull all out of date stock off the warehouse shelves before they reply to tell us it was an error with their stores or something.

To be honest. The disks were all dry and showed no signs of deterioration. And they worked ok. I have seen disks for sale at car boot sales that look like they have been to hell and back. Damp and dog eared. Not to mention sun bleached. I wouldnt use these for free !!!

I might pop to Halfords nxt to see how "in date" their disks are...???

Interesting stuff. I had no idea these things had a use by date.
To get the newest possible stock it would make sense to use a place with a high turnover, like Screwfix or ToolStation.
