Pistons help.

Post by Sunbmw »

Hi all, I have had a very quick scout around this site, but can't find what I am after, so new thread..............

I am looking for a set of new Forged, high compression (12-13:1ish) "Intruder" type pistons, for my RV8 I have tried all the regular sites, Accralite (94mm only), Omega, etc and can't seem to find exactly what I am after. They have to be for a 3.5 bore (88.9mm) but can be +0.20 or 0.40.

Any ideas where to look? Will it have to be a US source?

John Eales has these, but they are cast...............

Help will be gladly appreciated.

Hi
By "intruder" piston, do you mean a raised crown piston? if so why do you want to use this type of piston? A flat top piston is preferable if you can find one, and on the rover you can get pretty high C/R with head skimming, tin gaskets and flat top pistons. Certainly if you are not going to be running above 12:1 ish then a raised crown is not necessary.
Also why the need to stick with 88.9 bore? it is easier to find 94mm (3.9 bore) pistons that are forged and flat topped for much more reasonable money, ford mod engines have a 94mm piston that is flat topped, very light and about £175 a set with taxes paid (talk to Ian Stewart). custom made cosworth forged slugs are going to be serious money (£600+) plus rings and pins and made to an old heavy design.
Best regards

Hi Lee,

based on my own experience of Grp A engine, the cheapest solution is to order venolia domed forged piston for Buick 215. Pistons will be similar to cosworth Grp A pistons.

Price is around $75.00-$80.00 each.

Cheers.

Recently had a message from Wotland re 3.5" bore piston for the Rover.

Apparently Venolia (USA) do a raised crown forged piston for around $85 each so reasonable at approx £425.00 + shipping and taxes. per set.

Look under Buick 215. but they may list as Rover as well.
