well this is whats left of my wifes car after her accident on the local bypass last friday just before we went away for the weekend for a break.



was caused by a w****r stopping in the outside lane to let a pheasant cross the road,
the wife pulled out from behind a car on the inside lane and BANG hit him straight up the arse at 50mph. no hazzard lights or brake lights on,

Her fault according to her own insurance and the car looks to be written off this week.

The wife is badly bruised and shaken and has burns up both arms from the shackles on the bed, errrrrr i mean from the airbags going off honest

bang goes the charger conversion on the cappa this year, and respray

Any accident you can walk away from and all that....does make me think...It's why I drive a modern everyday car, if that accident was in my classic, the car would look OK but I wouldn't look so good!
All that energy absorbed as the car sacrificed itself for your wife!

Well your Mrs is very lucky and as said above the car has crumpled and probably saved her.

Before you let the insurance have the car get the tax disc of it and claim back the tax - di it tomorrow and you'll not lose July's cost - probably about £15 but don't give in to the system!

If your insurance company takes posession they also take posession of anything fitted and the tax!

Sincerely hope your wife recovers fast from her injuries as well as from the accident. Unbelievable the manoeuvres people pull off trying to avoid animals. If it doesn't rise above the bonnet line I'll run over it any time.

Sorry to hear your bad news, stopping in the outside lane for a bird is pure lunacy and I would contest the responsability of fault.

Glad thad your wife has no serious injuries but obviously a very unpleasant experience, hope she feels more comfortable soon.

Unfortunately the law is pretty clear on rear-end shunts.
I would still try to argue the toss though.

Tony- I'm pretty sure it isn't just ok to stop on a dual carriageway, the law is normally blunt with rear end shunts as Chris says- but there are exceptions. I'd ask the police or road people or something...

ANd besides, doesn't the highway code say something about not swerving etc for animals?

The law for rear end shunts is redundant, makes situations like this completely ridiculous.

Argue all you will. But she is in the wrong. What if the other car had stopped for a pedestrian ? Or an injured pedestrian etc ? or another accident ?

It might not sound nice, but you should always be able to stop within the distance you can see clearly ahead.

Rarely does anyone ever obey that rule, myself included. And there is even less chance in traffic given how close most people sit. Thats just life though. Most people get away with it with no incidents.

She can just be lucky that there were no serious injuries. When you see crash tests for old cars versus new, it is very impressive how much passenger safety has improved
