Rover V8 35DLM8 3 pin distributor
Hi,
I have purchased a number of parts to install a rover V8 into my TR7, one of the parts is a 35 DLM8 distributor from a range rover with the amplifier mounted on the side, it is the later type with 3 small pins, looking a the posts I have gathered that only 2 pins are used and one goes to each side of the coil (I will be using a 12V lucas sport coil) , can anyone tell me which two I use and where they go?

As far as I can remember, the middle one is unused. Can't remember which way round the other two were connected though, and not in a position to find out without a bit of digging through boxes.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Pete.sidecar wrote:Jim at JRV8 will know.....try sending him a PM, he's a top bloke!
If you look at the module face on, with the connections on the left hand side , the pin numbers are 1-- 2-- 3
1 (left) goes to the coil (-)
2 (centre) is spare
3 (right) goes to the coil (+)
We can sell you a ready made lead , if you need one. (Drop me a PM)
Regards
Jim

Have to disagree with you on this one Russ.russell_ram wrote:Just to be a pedant:-
Pin 2 is actually an earth connection. The 'offical' LR 3 pin lead runs a two core shielded cable and the shield is earthed through this pin.

Pin 2 is spare.
On the later modules, the sheathing is eathed to the module mounting plate.
The shielding is only used as a "Farrady cage" for protection against stray impulses. It plays no part in the circuit operation.

Have i destroyed my dizzy??
You won't distroy the dizzy but you "might" blow the module. Jim can sell you a secondhand one for a few quid. For about 40 quid you can buy a new one.

Pete.
