Wiring Amp Recommendations Please

Post by bullyboy »

Hi
I am wanting to run a permanant 12v feed to the front of my car which will power my dual kenlowe fans and also supply feed for my electronic ignition circuit and possibly other stuff. What Amp cable should i use?
Also what amp for a shared switchable ignition feed for the same jobs?
Many thanks in advance.

Chris

a bit of a guess really as cooling fans vary so much in current draw. I have seen them range from 6 amps (small chinese jobbie) up to 30 amps (for a really big Spal) If we say the fans are probably going to draw 15 amps each, that will be 30 amps total (and they draw nearly double that when they first start)
If you are running it from the rear of the car I would run a wire with a cross sectional area of 6.0 sq.mm. (8-10 awg) 4.0mm will be okay if you are just running from the battery cable at the starter motor. Use relays for the rad fans, one each.
Hope this helps. :)
