600 double pumper question

Post by mgbv8 »

I've now got a 600 DP to try instead of my Weber 600.
I assume the small vac pipe on the side of one of the float bowls is the one for the vac modulator on the gear box. The other one right on the bottom flange below the butterflies must be the normal vac take off for the dissy.
Is the other small port actullay a vac line or is it an overflow or something??
I'm sure it will become clear when I eventually fit it and get the gauges on. But that may not be for a week or so now due to work. Can anyone also point me to a publication about this carb so I can swot up and look like I know what I'm on about down the pub

Hi the David Vizard "how to build horsepower" volume 2 covers carbs and inlet manifolds ISBN is 9781884089145 and seems to me quite detailed (certainly on Holeys and Q jets), I can lend you My copy if you are passing one evening (PM me and I'll send you my address and phone number.
I will have a hunt through some of the books at home tonight as I remember seeing one advertised on tuning and modifying Holeys and post it up tonight.

The SA Holley book is the best available and a wealth of information. It explains the interaction of the circuits pretty well. Once you get your head round this interaction its very easy to tune a Holley carb for best power. However if you want power and economy you would probably be better off with your previous carb. The Holley will make more power but it won't be all that economical about it.
