Cam sprocket- usually need changing?

Post by Grant »

Hi, I'm having new a camshaft/chain/tappets fitted on my 3.5 disco. Just realised the cam kit I bought (and have now given to the mechanic) didn't include a new sprocket

Would you quickly grab a new one from a motor factor before he gets that far?

Obviously if there's blatant damage he'll let me know

Cheers

If your still running the nylon toothed sprocket I'd change it! To be honest I just change the chain and sprockets regardless. V8 Tuner or JRV8 sells them and they are not too expensive.

Motor factors can't get one, stealership have hung up the phone & buggered off 10 mins early... oh well!

Didn't consider that the kit wouldn't include one until I looked at the receipt.

**ahh autpost in wimbledon have one... how bloody annoying for a 5 quid part!

Make sure whatever one that you go for does not have nylon teeth!

I think that really you need to change the whole lot as a set, i.e both sprockets and the chain. Just My humble of course!

You may as well put a better solid set in, like this:

That way you won't have to worry about it, your cam timing will stay spot on and if you want to upgrade other bits of the engine in the near future then the valve train will not require any attention!
