cooling the inlet charge

hi guys just a thought anyone any ideas on injecting fuel into the inlet track 300mm or more before the throttle butterfly to cool the inlet charge on wide open throttle

You'd have to keep gas speed high, What kind of inlet manifold are we talking about? I guess it could be done successfully with long straight trumpets like the stacks you find on a hilborn injection system for example, but without a strait shot and good gas speed you'd have a risk of fuel coming out of suspension. What's wrong with using the same long runners and injecting nearer the port? I don't think any cooling effect you might achieve by injecting high up will be significant.

:whs I think you may get a lot of fuel condensing on the sides of the inlet which puts the injectors efforts at atomisation to waste. On a NA engine I didnt think the inlet had warm issues- if anything its freezing! Longer runners to keep the velocity up should help but I dont think the fuel should be injected too high up- or they'd have done it in the factory and it would be common practice.

Fuel would pool in the trumpet base = BANG. If you want o inject something to aid cooling, use NOS.

thanks guys i was thinking of injecting fuel only when the throttle was above 80% open to avoid fuel drop out as my two inlet tracks are more than 1.5mtrs long in a very hot engine bay(tvr) i thiught it would help cooling the inlet charge and increase bhp thanks again

I think the latest Ford Lightening truck was Charged, they used a Charge Cooler via the AirCon, which I think blew cold air thru an air to air closed cooler, it runs for about 30 secs at full bost before it needs to recool its self. Just a thought.
