You'll have had bits on your car done this way for years

The valves and stems will be friction welded together for one!

Most valves are friction welded, Im using 1 piece valves, I was more intrested in the fact they can friction weld shafts, I was wondering it this is an alternative to re splining??

that is how loco axels are welded together, you don't hear of those failing at the weld. I would think it ideal for a drive shaft, but it is a specialised process.

Fostek Engineering can do this to shorten half shafts instead of re cutting the splines BUT they need a straight shaft to work on as of course it spins very fast. I wanted them to do some work for me but my shafts were not true. Julian
