If you've removed all the leads then as well as getting the firing order right you need to start in the right place on the dizzy cap. If you're sure they're roughly right, try moving all the leads one position clockwise on the cap, if that doesn't work then try the other way.

You also have to worry about flooding the engine. When you change the leads, put new clean plugs in and make sure the battery is charged before you try to start it.

Hi ,
Most of the aftermarket lead lengths are designed to be fitted , starting at the left of the clip.

No, No1 cylinder can be in any place, its dictated by where the position of the distributor gear is fitted to the cam gear,

The easiest way to get no1 position is remove the LH rpcker cover, remove No1 plug, and rotate the engine untill No1 inlet is closing, insert a small rod or serewdriver blade down the spark plug hole and continue to rotate the engine [by hand] untill the screwdriver touches the piston, gently keep turning untill the screwdriver stops rising, you have TDC, check where the rotor arm is pointing on the cap, this is No1 position.

If the engine runs at all, and the plug leads are connected in the right order, then you can be certain they are all in the correct positions. Unless you've moved the distributor too, you know that the timing is still correct (at least, as good as it was before all this started). As far as I can tell from what you've posted, the HT leads, dizzy, ignition timing etc are all now correct and you're all sorted.

Start her in the dark and see if you are getting sparks across the spark plugwires
