gems fuel pressure for tuned engine

Post by Seight-V8 »

hiya all,

having read as much info on the GEMS efi as i can i still have loads to sort out.

but

will i need a FSE adjustable fuel pressure regulator if i will be running a 4.6 tuned motor.

hopefully it will include chipped ecu, mild cam, stage 3 heads and ported inlet manifold.

The des hamill book says fuel pressure will need increasing to 38-44 psi.

I presume standard pressure is 36spi.

thanks for the help

scott

fuel pressure is all to do with the flow rate of your injectors and or whatever the map has been created to suit. You need to roughly work out the amount of fuel your likely to need then work out the amount your injectors can flow. In reality your probably better leaving the fuel pressure roughly standard and sizing the injectors to suit. This gives the fuel pump an easier time. Course 8 injectors cost a lot more than a pressure regulator. Depend how much you would need to up the pressure by really. You also need to know all these figures or you will never get the mapping to be accurate.
No idea about GEMS but I think the hotwire pressure standard was 28psi.
