Fuel Tank Pick Up?

I'm in the process of upgrading the fuel deivery to the Edelbrock on my 4.6 SD1. I'm using Russel lightweight 3/8 od piping, and a Mallory 70 pump that delivers 30+GPH @ 5psi.

What do I do about getting fuel out of the tank and into the pump?

Do I still use the existing SD1 in tank pipe, minus the OE fuel pump and sock on the end of it, but still retaining the fuel guage float / sender mechanism. The pipe doesn't seem to be a very big diameter, not 3/8 like the rest of the piping will be. Will it limit the flow to the pump?
