Hot Alternator

Post by Muttleys V8 »

Help Please!

It always happens a week before Le Mans!

I’ve had some problems with the electrics on the car, it seemed to be the alternator, faulty diode and resistor pack, have had those changed, re fitted the alternator, BUT, with the ignition off but the battery connected, the alternator is getting very very hot.

Answers on a postcard please?
Steve

Just as a sanity check, I'd remove the big wire from the alternator and check that it still gets hot. If it is getting hot, I'd expect to see some small sparks when you remove or refit the wire.

Chris.

Have you done anything else on the car
Added lights etc.

if so recheck your connections

Get it fixed and I'll see you down there a week tomorrow
