melting my points

can someone please help!
lucas 35d8 dizzy and my points are getting very
hot to the point the plastic lobe is melting and the points
dont make contact with the drive I have changed the points
and the coil but this is still hapening not had a chance to change the condencer yet.
put new points in and it ran for about 10 min and cut out
opend the cap and the points are very hot and closed changed the coil
put points in and did the same again.
please heeeeeeellllllllllp. :oops:

Change the condenser but also make sure your running a ballasted coil with the right ballast resistor. You can sometimes get away with a 12v coil but personally I wouldn't advise it on points. If you run a 9v coil and no ballast resistor you will get exactly what you have right now because far too much current is being drawn. If everything is right then the only other thing I can think of is you have a some kind of short somewhere.

I had been having big missfire problems. Virtualy each journey was a trip into the unknown as to if I would get home !!
Changed to Aldon mag type electonic (10 minute job as it just fits in place of the points) and since then it sounds better and more even and no missfires. Julian
