Baby Atlas

Post by julian.jay »

This probably a long shot but does anyone have a 48" Ford Atlas axle available, pref with 3.4 final drive. This is needed for Mk2 Cortina. Julian

As an alternative, I can get an Atlas 50 inches wide. Does anyone know a company that could narrow it for me, preferably not too far from here in Dunstable. Julian

i did it myself, its easy on the 50 inch. The half shafts have the splines cut
1/2 inch longer than what goes into the diff carrier, cut end off by 1/2 and re-use.
The axle casing can be cut by same amount, just make sure to jig it b4 welding it together.

Sorry to be dim but I thought the Cortina has a 48 inch axle which means cutting 1 inch off each end not just half inch. Julian
