Leaking oil pressure transmitter

Post by RoverP6B »

In the space of only a few months, the first and now the second new oil pressure transmitter fitted to my Rover V8 oil pump is leaking oil :(

The oil leaks from the interface between the cylindrical black plastic top section and the large metal nut section.

No oil leaks from where the unit screws into the oil pump cover.

To say that I am disappointed with the quality of the product is an understatement!

Has anyone else experienced the same or similar with your oil pressure transmitter?

Ron.

Hello Marki,

The original genuine transmitter was made by 'Smiths' in the U.K, but sadly these are no longer available.

So, the replacements come in a British Motor Part (BMP) box., part number 555947. Rimmer Bros have them for 172.43 Pounds

I purchased one locally, and one from the U.K, same part number, but no where near that price, so I don't know if there is a difference.

I had the same problem, for a long time I thought it was coming from the thread but its was from the top.

I replaced it with an item that came from a VW/Audi and all has been ok - fingers crossed
