Hi all,
I´m working on a new pair of cyl. heads for my 4.6 l in my LandRover 90 to replace the old 3.5 ones with 4.6 ones.
My question is:
The bowl ( combustion chamber ) is smaller than the diameter of the piston, the edges of the bowl are sharp and the shape of the bowl is not round, it´s 3 quarters of a full moon, if you can discribe it like this.
Does it make any sense to smoothen these edges?
The CR will be lowered by this kind of work, that´s fact I think.
Any pix of your heads for comparison?
Many thanx
and happy rovering

Removing the sharp edged can help reduce detonation and will affect cr very little. The sharp thin edges can get hot with obvious results. Just round the edge though , don't go putting a large radius on it. Kinda quick scuff with emery paper type thing. As for re-shaping the combustion chamber, only if you know what your doing. My JE heads for the most part are shaped as per factory, pics on my site.
