Post by TVRleigh »

Hi,
Is the stud kit the same for all the engines.

I know there journals are 2 different sizes but are the stud sizes the same.

Thanks

Leigh,

If it's a x bolted block with the x bolts in place it's not normally necessary to use a stud kit.

Yes it is a X bolted with the bolts.

Thanks for the advice, but do you know if there the same or not.

not 100% on this but I think the 4.6 will use longer studs with the caps being larger.

When i asked V8D about my 4.6 they reckon ARPs aren't really necessary due to the x-bolts, as you said Katanaman

Only 3.5, 3.9 and 4.2 litre engines can benefit from using studs and nuts to retain main bearing caps. They are designed to minimise movement between the caps and block as engine temperatures rise above 80 degrees C.

The design of the main caps and the way in which they are located within the block in 4.0 and 4.6 litre engines means that such movement at high engine temperatures can never occur.

"The standard bolts fitted to 4.0 and 4.6 litre cross bolted blocks are suitable for all applications, including racing".......Des Hammill.
