"ridge dodger" rings

Post by bak2burbles »

I've noticed real steel list "ridge dodger" rings & rang to find out what the difference are from standard? Unfortunatly it was a Saturday morning & I think I got the cleaner as he was'nt sure either! Anyone know better please? I'm trying to "budget" rebuild an sd1 v8 & dont really want to rebore/buy new pistons if I can get away with it. Its my first engine build &
more off a hobby then anything else, the block I have has a very slight dip/groove/grand canyon at the top of each bore but I was told the lump was good before I stripped it & wondered whether these rings would be the answer? Its only going in a "fun" street/track car.. Trouble is each engineering firm has said it'll need a rebore, are they just making business for themselves?

A lot of good engines have a bit of build up at the top of the liner mate.
Do the bores all look clean?
Can you see any pitting?
Can you see any wear marks?

Thanks for your advice m8, the bores look ok to my untrained eye, certainly no pitting or obvious wear & I've been back on to real steel
who now say "slight" ridges are'nt a problem & there ridge dodgers rings
should compensate for that so theres my answer..
many thanks again..

I'll have to ask Simon at RS what these rings are. You've got me intrigued now.
