Engine Stand
Evening all,
not too exhausted from a weekends present shopping I hope!
I've treated myself to an early prezzie in the form of an engine stand from Clarkes. Bit stuck on how to mount engine though, What thread bolts do I need, which are best holes(4) to use and where can I get the correct bolts (need them about 3.5" long)?
many thanks

I just bought some bolts from the local nut and bolt man. They are not fully threaded so I use some oversized nuts as spacers.
I use the two top bell housing holes and two lower down that the arms on the stand line up with.
Dont forget when you go to the nuts and bolt shop to try and get the normal joke in.
You show the bloke one of your short bell housing bolts and tell him that "these are the right thread, but I need them a lot longer"
When he say's "how long do you want/need them"
You say "well, I want to keep them" !!

Is the day of the good local ironmonger dead?? Ive just been along to a place called fyfe & macgrouther - its supposed to be the best ironmonger in the city. When i asked for 3/8 UNC bolts he just stood and looked at me with a blank expression on his face!
Didnt even get the chance to use the 'how long do you need them' joke!!
Just got them from namrick. If id done that in the first place i would have saved half my lunch hour....

I went to Clerkenwell screws in London and ordered four 3/8 UNC bolts x 3" long. No probs he said.
Plonked them on the counter and then produced a bill for...Get this...£28.00 + vat.
I politely handed them back and made the trip to my normal man. Apex Fasteners in Slough and paid about a quid each for them.
I think next time I'm in SLough I'll get an assortment of UNC and UNF studding and nuts if they have some. That could be a life saver fallback to have that in the cupboard.
