having relocated myself to australia ive just about got my hands on a 1995 ford falcon xg ute looks like an 80's cortina i reckon
its got the 4litre mpi inline engine
my question is what involed in converting this to a ford or chev small block v8
im guessing get a ford 302 v8 or simalar with autobox to match cut or lenghen the prop and weld engine mounts
anyone know if the mpi inlines autobox is a match to a ford v8? or easy done with a convertion plate?
hope this is posted in the right place if not im sure tony will shift it!
cheers rob.

I think you'll find that Ford Falcons have always come with a V8 as a standard option - so a trip to a local breakers, if you can find one, should set you up with everything you need.
One of my favourite sites - constantly considering a bit of vehicle imigration.

Why can't we have V8 Mondeos, (sorry I mean BF GT Cobras)? Might not be my ideal vehicle but it'd do as a daily run around!

re
Falcon dropped the v8 option in march 1983 with the series 2 xe falcon.Came back in the EB falcon in 92/93.Swapped from Cleavland to Windsor motor. The ute you have is an XD body from 1979 with the 1987 XF front sheet metal and a updated dash. The tray and under body are from the 1972 xA falcon. The v8 option was available on the xh ute so the parts and engine to pass rego could be obtained from a Wrecker.Any efi 5lt from EB to AU will be ok.Apart from the BA on triton ohc V8's,any other engine would need an engineers certificate, and unless on straight LPG a full emissions compliance test similar to what a manufacturer does for a new model, costing thousands of dollars.State rego laws do vary a bit too.The BTR 85le trans has a different bell housing internals and ecu from 6 to 8 cyl.Easiest to swap the whole engine trans combo with the right ecu's ect.
