Dizzy and coil wiring

Post by Adam »

Hello All,

Can anyone help me ? I've just fitted a 3.5 SD1 V8 into a 1975 MGB, I have an electronic dizzy with the small box on the side (Lucas 35DLM8 I think). I'm trying to wire up the ignition, I need some sort of wiring diagram to go from my old MGB wiring to the electronic V8 set up. I think I have the alternator sorted just the coil and dizzy not sure about?. I'm at least 1 wire short to the dizzy? Do I need a ballast resistor?

If you could help me I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks Adam

Hi Adam,

The outermost one connects to the coil (-)
The inner one connects to the coil (+)

+12v should be connected to the coil (+) through the ignition switch, and the pick up wire from the rev counter should be connected to the coil (-)

No ballast resistor required, but make sure that you're using a coil suitable for electronic ignition.

Regards
Jim

Adam,

A 75 car (Rubber Bumper) would have a ballast resistor and a six volt coil, ypu will need provide a new positive supply to a new 12volt coil and then connect to the amp onthe side the of the dizzy the white wire with black tracer is for the tacho.
