Knackered mallory?
How much play can I expect in the spindle on my dual point. At a guess, I'd say I can wobble it about 0.5 mm. Also, the other day when I took the base plate off to remove one of the point adjusting screws whose head was damaged, there was metallic powdery stuff in it. Don't know if this was just general wear on the lobes and points. Have had a spot of bother with it lately. Have had a dodgy set of points, that weren't contacting centrally, and I think that has been causing some running problems. Can't order anymore just yet but have tried to fix it, by bending the points so they are central and resetting them.
Then it started popping and backfiring, and don't have my timing gun or many tools so can't adjust it properly, have just had to retard it until it stopped doing it.
Anyway, thats when I noticed the wobbly spindle.

Yeah, I had it out today to put the e-spark kit on and the bottom of the spindle wiggles about. It is what is technically known as f***ed. Presumably there is a bearing in there, and it's knackered. The drive gear is also buggered as a consequence.
Can the bearings be replaced? Are they available or would it be possible to have one made?

I have succesfully repaired this now. The bearing was oval
It had also damaged the shaft, and it had worn of centre. The extra movement in the shaft had caused the advance weights to rub on the dizzy body which is why it was full of metalic poop.
I had a machine shop skim the shaft back to centre ,taking off 7 tho, then had a new bearing made.
