My NPB without gas, (just normaly asparated)

Post by v8 jago »

I ran a new personal best without nitrous. I went from a 12.9 down to a 12.0. I didnt go flat out of the line so im hoping to run into the 11sec bracket at the next event at york. I am very pleased with that time and proud to say it is a rover v8....

Well done mate. Just keep the front wheels down eh!!

I'm hoping to break into the 11's before the year is out with my old 3500 and a bit of gas.

I'm only 0.6 of a second off it mate. An 11.9999999999 will do fer me matey.
I just need to nail my launch properly. Still running over 2 seconds on the 60 foot times. If I can get this down to a 2 second dead or a 1.9 I'm there.

I cant wait to see that Jeep run in the flesh / metal!!!

Well it looks like your as good as there :D It might be a case of letting your tyres down a little or it might be a case of the weather being nice and warm so you can get some grip.. What tyres are you running and where do you race ??
My little jeep is fiberglass so only weighs 1 ton which some people are quick to point out but what they dont point out is that it is as aerodynamic as a block of flats  But it makes people take people by suprise.. :o

Mmm, 12.0 without gas, How much gas do you run to get it into the 10s, I can run 12.6 without gas and 1.604 60 fts, If I could get a 11 with a 75 shot, I would be a happy bunny

I was running 13.2 without gas and ran a 10.8 with 180bhp, Then discovered i was only getting 3/4 throttle, so when i redid the throttle to as good as full throttle i went out and ran a 12.0 then a 12.1 without gas.. I still yet have to run my jeep with gas and being able to get full. If the results are as much of a diffrence as what they were i think i will of bit off more that i can chew :o

What basic engine spec do you use to allow the use of 180hp of gas
I assume forged pistons, decent rods, but what have you done in the crank area??.

My engine is basically diiamond forged pistons, Wildcat H beam rods, 4.6 crank off ground to make it 4.8 and then 96mm top hat liners to make it 5ltr. I expect my engine to take 300 bhp of gas. I know a guy who used to run 125 bhp of gas with standard internals and only melted 2 pistons in 5 years. Oh and mine is obviously a cross bolted block and has ARP studs right through. I have got an aditional 2nd stage with 75bhp in which discovering my lost power i dont think i have the balls to try it out.. :)

Makes me wonder how much gas my engine will stand,3.9 relined flexiblock 11.5.1 CR, Omega Pistons, injection rods, ARP studded top and bottom. Arp Rod bolts, Got to be good for 100hp??

Mine is a standard low comp (8:1) with standard internals apart from the typhoon cam.
I know I melted some plugs and pistons a while back, but that was due to poor fuel supply causing it to run lean when on the gas. I have hopefully sorted that now. My old 3500 runs a 100 shot fixed hit ok, and a 150 shot through the controller with no probs. I think it will take a 200 shot ok at this low CR, maybe even more. I'm going to try it out on the Sunday of USC.

Whats the update on the engine Ian?

You have one hell of a set up there as them pistons are as good as forged..
I know they will take at least 225bhp as my old engine was a 3.9 and i had omega pistons in it 93.5mm and my mate bought it of me and was using 210bhp with ease and ran a 11.3 in a model A delivery van.. I know someone who claims to have put 300+ trough them with no probs.. Have complete faith in it mate..

I havent done a lot as I seem to have fooked my back, Ive some Monsterous Horse tablets from the docs, but they dont seem to have worked yet. But the horse up the field keeps looking at me longingly, which is a bit worrying
Update on the engine, with one head off there are witness marks on all the exhaust valves, and witness mark in the carbon on an inlet, I have yet to clock the snout of the crank just to ensure its not bent, I will give the engine a full refresh and hope to improve my times, but that is obviously down to what I find under the other cylinder head, BTW you have a PM,
Sorry for the Hijack.

I'm off to the Pod in the morning for another bash. It will be busy as its USC, but I do like running alongside the modern stuff.
Havent touched the car since North Weald and I'm just back from my hols. Got it on the trailer now and I'm going to run a rag over it. I'll tune it in the morning when I get there.
I've got a newe theory to stop my bogging off the line. I'll try a hard launch off gas and flick the switch when I hit 4000rpm.
I start a new job on Monday, so I wont have a lot of car time for the next few months. So I dont mind if I melt something else trying for that elusive 11.999 run. Well, you gotta try aint ya!!!
I'm sure I can dial in the right fuel mix for that 200 shot if my calc are correct. If not, I'll be bringing another trailer load of bits home again..
